Mako Reacts to Governor’s Budget Proposal

February 4, 2025

HARRISBURG — Rep. Zach Mako (R-Lehigh/Northampton) today issued the following statement in response to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s $51.47 billion budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2025-26:

“Gov. Shapiro’s budget proposals always seem to want to drive us over a fiscal cliff. He shows fiscal irresponsibility and an insatiable appetite to spend each year. For the coming fiscal year, he has proposed a 7.5% spending increase with revenue collections only growing by 2.8%. Even an elementary school student can see this is unbalanced. His plan would drain our General Fund surplus and then dip into the Rainy Day Fund. This would set us up for a catastrophe.

“Fortunately, this is just a proposal. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, we will be holding hearings soon in order to thoroughly examine his plan. I will not tie my fellow Pennsylvanians to the tracks as Shapiro tries to send a train barreling at us.”
