Municipalities in 183rd Awarded Grants, Mako Says

HARRISBURG – Rep. Zach Mako (R-Lehigh/Northampton) today announced he helped secure more than $2.5 million in Local Share Account (LSA) grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for projects in the 183rd Legislative District.

Act 71 of 2004 provides for the distribution of LSA gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects of public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

“I’m pleased to partner with Sens. Nick Miller and Jarrett Coleman to secure funding for these important projects,” Mako said. “These grants will help support the repair and replacement of vital infrastructure and equipment municipalities and organizations depend on to serve our communities. I’m proud to help pursue this funding, which will make it possible to move these critical projects forward – projects that would have been much more difficult to complete without this support.”

Those receiving LSA funding are:

• Bath Borough – $199,096 to purchase and install a backup generator to power three municipal buildings in the borough.
• Lehigh Township – $300,000 to purchase 45 portable and 20 mobile radios for municipal and emergency service use.
• Lehigh Township Municipal Authority – $925,119 to extend the water main for the proposed interconnection from the city of Bethlehem.
• Lehigh Valley Economic Investment Corporation – $100,000 to rehabilitate the Orchard Hills campus wastewater treatment facility of KidsPeace in North Whitehall Township.
• Lowhill Township – $100,000 to construct a salt shed.
• North Catasauqua Borough – $350,000 to assist with the purchase of a new fire truck.
• North Whitehall Township – $100,000 to assist with the purchase of a single-axle dump truck and accessories.
• Northampton Borough – $264,470 to purchase a street sweeper.
• Northampton Borough – $75,000 to assist with purchase of two new patrol vehicles for the police department.
• Walnutport Borough – $100,000 to assist with the purchase of a new dump truck for the Public Works Department.
• Walnutport Borough – $41,472 to purchase new police equipment, including tasers, vehicle cameras and body cameras.

The 183rd House District includes Lowhill and North Whitehall townships and Slatington Borough in Lehigh County. It also consists of Allen, East Allen, Lehigh and Moore (part) townships, and Bath, North Catasauqua, Northampton and Walnutport boroughs in Northampton County.
